Therapy for relationships and intimacy

Relationships – past, present, loss, complex dynamics, systemic-related, intimacy

Maxine E King offers psychodynamic psychotherapy for adults whose difficulties are rooted in relationships, whether past, present or lost. Therapy explores repeating patterns, complex family and social dynamics and difficulties with intimacy.

What relationship difficulties can feel like

Relationship difficulties can involve a partner, family, friends, colleagues or a relationship that has ended. You may notice the same conflict repeating in different settings. You may find it hard to trust, to be close or to say what you need.

Some people lose themselves in pleasing others. Others feel controlled, dismissed or betrayed. Difficulties with intimacy can be emotional, physical or both.

Words that may feel familiar

Pattern repetition. Pleasing others. Betrayed. Blame. Guilt. Dismissed. Controlled. Looking to others to fix me.

How psychodynamic psychotherapy works with relationships

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a relational therapy. It looks at the patterns you learned early in life and how they show up now, including between you and Maxine in the room. Noticing them together can be the first step towards relating differently.

Maxine is further qualified in Relationship Psychotherapy and Clinical Sexology. She is also trained in Group Analysis, which looks at how individuals are shaped by the groups and systems around them.
